Yeah, the convention has been over for like 2 weeks and I should have written about it earlier, but I'm dodging class at school and being plagued by uber-boredom, and the intrawebs are not amusing me at the moment, so there's no better time than the present! Be warned that it's quite a read @__@ . So here we go! ♥
AFest was a ton of fun this year, and definitely one of the best conventions I've gone to in awhile! (A-Kon was fun too though!!!)!
As soon as I got out of class on Friday, I went home to eat lunch and finish up cosplay stuffahs. I had to finish my Happy!Project skirt, attach buttons to my Asuka jumper, fix my gogo boots (FAIL!! DX), and try to style my Blair wig (also fail, but less so....). I decided to leave the wig until we got to the hotel, since it would probably just be crushed and brutalized in the back of McLovin' (the minivan, for those of you who are out of the loop), so I moved on to my tragically mangled boots. At A-Kon I managed to break the heel on my favorite black gogo boots and when I tried to Gorilla Glue the heel back on, the bastard Satan-glue bubbled up and hardened all over the back of the shoe (I can't accurately describe it, but it's frickin' gross looking. I need to post a picture....). According to the bottle, acetone will get Gorilla Glue off of undesirable surfaces, so my mom found an ancient bottle of it on my back porch. We couldn't get it open at the house, so I threw it in with my luggage thinking I could get my brother to open it at the Hyatt when we got there.
So I packed my massive amount of stuff, changed into my Misa costume (because I can't pass up an opportunity to be in cosplay! XD) and headed over to Jenga's, where we added her massive amount of stuff to the car (There was seriously enough junk in that van to stock an entire ghetto rowhouse.), then left to pick up my brother from school and head out. We had to stop at a party store in Fort Worth so I could pick up a substitute wig for one of my costumes, in hopes of dyeing it that night. We also picked up gummi worms and drinks for the ride, super-stylish Batman masks for the masquerade, and car markers to decorate McLovin and broadcast our nerdiness to everyone else driving on 30! We wasted like 20 minutes decorating the car in the parking lot, but it was totally worth it to be able to drive down the freeway with "HOT DOLPHIN!!" written in huge letters across the rear window. Venture Bros. ftw!!
The car ride there was a blast! I devised a diplomatic system of music rotation, so we each got to choose 3 songs in a row, then switched to the next persons cd! Billy got first pick, so we cruised through Fort Worth rocking out to Tenacious D (which Jennifer hated, but I loved! XD). The phrase "hot demon gel" was repeated many times over the weekend. Then we had obligatory Hello!Project and Asian Kung Fu Generation ("Kimi to Iu Hana"=epic road trip song), and finished off the ride with Wonder Girls . When we finally got to the hotel, with Bad Boy blasting out of the windows, we were disturbed to see a hobo digging through a trash can, so we sped into the hotel to escape his homeless wrath. We went and checked in and the evil Hyatt charged us an $80 incidental fee, which is a special kind of bullshit they use to torture poor congoers. Angry Misa was angry. The unfortunate valet had to load all of our stuff onto a luggage cart and bring it up to the room, and I helped him unload it while Jenga and Billy were in the registration line downstairs. Then I went downstairs to wait in line with them, and talked to William from the TMCC and Yumi, and then I saw *drumroll please* CROTCH POWER!!! For any of you that heard about my A-Kon shenanigans, you know the importance of this. XD
After they got their badges we went back up to the room to unpack and settle in (our entire entertainment center was filled with food), and I went to go pick up my badge from Kendra. We decorated our door with a Hannah Montanna plate so we would always be able to find our room, and everyone else in the Hyatt would recognize our zazziness. The 11th floor was totally the party floor at AFest! The other Happy!Project girls stayed like 4 doors down from us, so I went over to their room a few times for random stuff. And Aya and her husband (they were the cutest couple ever in Joker and Harley cosplay! ♥) were around the corner. I sharpie dyed my Yukari wig, and it turned out hideous and blonde--an abomination to Persona 3! Around this time, Jennifer and I began our desperate quest to open my dad's bottle of acetone to fix my boots. We were both to weak and lame to do it ourselves, so we began soliciting random people in the hallways for help. These random people were frightened and ineffective, so I texted Tara and asked if she had any tools (she was running an amazing guitar booth downstairs), and we trekked down to her room to borrow some plyers. What resulted was half an hour of banging and screaming in our bathroom (I'm really surprised nobody called the front desk! All you could hear from outside was "I'm scared!!! *BANG BANG*") We finally got the bottle open, and low and behold.....acetone doesn't really remove Gorilla Glue.Woe and rage ensued. Then it was time for me to change into my Asuka costume for a photoshoot with Kuragiman! It was my first time working with him and he was really nice! After the shoot, it was Masquerade tiemz, but I could tell before we even got ready that it was going to be....interesting. There were some really gorgeously-dressed girls who were turned away because of the Puritanical dress code, which was a real shame because you could tell their outfits involved a lot of craftsmanship and detail (and they looked perfectly dressy IMHO!). I went upstairs and changed into my "ballgown" (which is really my prom dress, lulz) and Jennifer changed too and we went down. My dress was a hit, and lots of people thought it was from a series or game (I had one guy come up and tell me he loved the show I was from....XD)! There weren't many people at the ball, and the music selection was strange (circus music?), but they played Thriller so I was happy (I must learn that dance!!! For the glory of the SOA-Kon Brigade!). There weren't many people and I was kind of bored (slow dancing is only fun if you have someone to dance with, and I'm a lone ginger ;___;), so we migrated off in search of the rave, which was much much lamer. We ran into Cameron and some other people from TCU (the cool people!!! Others like me who are in the .0001% of the campus population who aren't wastes of oxygen! =D) and ended up sitting around and talking with them for awhile! Then we retired to our room to lay around and lawl about nipple-fetish yaoi that Jenga brought with her. Thanks, JBoy!! XD
Saturday started out with the Soul Eater shoot, which was tiny but fun! I went as Blair, even though my costume was incomplete (I still need armwarmers and a non-suckadelic hat XD, and a longer wig!). I had fun talking to Raimi, who I love (Dating Game Solidarity!!! *throws deuces*) After we wandered around downstairs for awhile, I went up and changed into my Simca costume so we could explore the dealer's room (and be photographed XD). I bought several Ochaken and Evangelion phonestraps, and an Action Bastard pin!!! I got lots of attention in my Simca costume, some of it deeply disturbing (one girl wanted me to make out with her for pictures, and I was like "Tonzura Koite!!!"). I wore Yuzuriha Nekoi (from X/1999) for a little while, and absolutely nobody recognized me, and then I changed into Orihime from Bleach (lots of people recognized me!), and me and Jenga went downstairs to hang out with Tara and help her take down her table. We went upstairs to eat dinner and were horrified to learn that *le gasp* Sol's Taco Lounge would not be delivering, yet again!!! Argh, fate be damned!!! We ate Jason's Deli instead and I started working on the top of my Happy!Project costume, and then got ready for the Dating Game! The 18+ Dating Game was a huuuuuuuge success, and definitely one of the highlights of the convention for me! Everyone who participated and helped out was amazing (special thanks to Kendra, for being everyone's personal Jesus and organizing everything! ♥♥♥), and everyone's answers were hillarious. The highlight of the game was definitely the final round, in which Roth_Star from the TMCC played as Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, leading to the neverending and eternally hillarious "raaaeeeep" jokes among everyone involved. It was an amazing night, and I can't wait for next time! After the game my feet were killing me (The 18+ Game marked the temporary retirement of my Bunny Girl Haruhi Suzumiya costume. I've had enough near-boob-exposure and dead feet for this year), so we went up to the room and Jennifer went to sleep while I worked almost all night on my Happy!Pro costume and watched a creepy-ass movie about a black male prostitute. The things you learn at conventions.....
The next morning I got up and started finishing my costume (Jennifer is my HERO for helping me glue on sparkles!), then got dressed and headed off to the All Ages Dating Game. It too was fun, but nothing can top the "raep" shenanigans of the 18+. I ended up winning both rounds I was in (for the 18+ and All Ages), so go figure on that one....Raimi and I were both eager for it to be done though, because cosplay contest rehearsal was only like an hour away, and both of us were involved in skits. As soon as it the game ended and we thanked everyone for coming, I literally ran up to the room to finish my costume. I got it done and got dressed to head down to rehearsal. My costume ended up being different from everyone elses' in the group, but at that point I didn't really care and I was just glad it was finished (and I got lots of compliments on it anyway, so whatevs! XD). We sat in the auditorium for prejudging and I talked to a bunch of other cosplayers (mainly people from the TMCC and the Baccano! group) , and it was finally our turn to run through the skit. We ended up doing 2 songs (one Momo song, which i was not involved in, and of course Cinderella Complex! ♥),so only the first song got a complete runthrough in rehearsal. After we were released, I ran back up to my room to style my hair and zazz up my makeup, and cover myself with glitter and ribbons for the big show. Jennifer and I went downstairs to wander around until the show started and I finally got to eat something!! I saw a lot of my friends (Tara, Kit, Sakura, Envy-kins, etc.) and they all wished me luck! When it was time for the contest to start Jennifer went back upstairs and I went with the Happy!Pro girls to wait.
The contest was a lot of fun, and the other acts were great! I talked to several of the other groups, and the other people were so sweet!! The girls from the "Bishiz" skit and Where's My Cow Cosplay were especially amazing! ♥ Our act got great reception from the other cosplayers, but the audience wasn't really into it (partially because of the super-long time limit and partially because of the lights being on [lamesauce!!! D<]) , but we were all proud that we did such a good job. It always keeps me going to hear my friends in the audience cheering for me (especially Cindy's "YEAH BOI!!!" xD). When the contest was over we went off to take post-performance pictures and they turned out amazing (mostly anyway....you have to have obligatory Misa-tard pics). After our shoot, I parted ways with the Happy!Pro girls and headed upstairs to get ready for the rave with Jennifer. The rave turned out to be lame again (until the arrival of Greg Ayres!! Oh snap!!! Color me unimpressed T___T), so we spent the night loitering around and having adventures with other cosplayers instead! We hung out with Star_Shiranui and HaremGirlNuriko, Alan, William, Rodney, and other people that came and went. We mostly sat around talking, lamenting the Ouran dub, and dicking around (heavily mocking drunk William XD) until the appearance of the Elevator Rapist (aka Barack Obama). After that, our night was consumed with lots of screeching and hillarity, as Rodney got in and molested the creepy asshole. We feared for Rodney's life indeed, and were sure he was going to come back full of knife wounds and the bodily fluids of others. But he came back unharmed, so no worries!!!
The next morning it was time to check out, and there was much dramu on that front. It took forever to get our stuff out because there was a one hour wait for luggage carts, and the wait would push you into late checkout (which is an extra $50!!! We weren't having any of that, no sir!! ). I was pretty pissed off at the Hyatt for their pitiful service on checkout day (and their Demon Lord incidental fee....I'll never forget!), but the hotel is really nice so I'll definitely stay again next year. I said goodbye to all my convention friends, and we drove off towards Fort Worth (passing a homeless guy who attacked my car with Trolli Bright Crawlers on the way out of the hotel O___O), and that was the end of AFest! I'm definitely looking forward to YuleCon and rooming with peeps now!
I already posted my shoutouts, so you know who you are!!! I ♥ all of you and I can't wait until next year! And to Michelle, Catz, and anyone who I didn't get to spend any time with, we definitely have to make up for it at the next con!! *huggles*
........And 2 weeks later my suitcase still isn't fully unpacked. >////< I fail at life....
